Liner Notes
The debut Mary Carves the Chicken (MCTC) CD was recorded in 1993. Founders Page Jackson and Bob Sherden met during the simultaneous crumbling of their bands, Tone Poets, and Urban Circus, respectively. It was a common story in the late 80's and early 90's. The hair bands were packing up and heading home, the days of glam rock and big hair coming hastily to a close.

Jackson and Sherden both worked with emotionally disturbed children as day jobs. Recognizing the signature long hair on Jackson, Sherden tried to hock him a handful of pay-to-play (or presale, as they are euphemistically called) tickets to a show at Gazzari's, on Sunset. Page was broke; but, like Bob, had tickets to barter. The trade was on; and each became a part of the other's following.
The first time Bob and Page played together was for a breast cancer benefit. After learning some covers together, the boys started bouncing ideas back and forth; and the result was pure magic...and while the album absolutely rocks, it was a far cry form the metal of the Sunset Strip. Influences ranging as far and wide as XTC, Morrissey, The English Beat, Duran Duran, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, The Sex Pistols, The Pretenders, John Lee Hooker, Pink Floyd, and a list of other such dissimilar acts contributed to this eclectic stew, which was, and continues to be, widely regarded as one of the best damn records you are ever likely to hear.
After 13 years, and a sold-out run of CDs, the debut collection has finally been remastered to meet today's demanding audio standards. You've come at the right time. This timeless record sounds better than ever.
